The cookbook has an entire chapter dedicated to Holiday Cakes. Christmas Eve seemed like the perfect time to try one of the numerous Christmas-themed recipes. Since I was already making an apple pie for Christmas dinner, I settled on this Bundt Cake as it seemed to be the least time consuming. Like other bundt and pound cakes, there’s not a whole lot of steps to making this cake. The ingredients come together and then you bake it for a while. There’s no post-bake construction and no tedious frosting steps. Once this cools, it’s just glazed with a (somewhat strongly) rum flavored glaze.

Other than the glaze, I really didn’t find myself thinking this tasted like egg nog. There are some egg nog spices in the cake but their flavors are drowned out by the density of the cake. And there is no hint of the tang from the buttermilk. It was moist and still tasted good. It just didn’t evoke egg nog for me. I probably won’t make this cake again, there are quite a few different bundt cake recipes in the cookbook. I’d opt for one of those instead.
