This is my dad’s favorite cake, so with it being Father’s Day this weekend, I decided to give it a go. The topping didn’t seem too challenging except the recipe says it will boil and froth when it’s time to remove it from heat. There was never any frothing, but it did thicken up so I’m pretty sure it was done. The cake was pretty standard aside from melting some chocolate and blooming it with the cocoa powder. When they came out of the pans, they looked like they were going to be pretty dry, but I was fooled again. They were tender and very crumbly and fell apart a bit as I was trying to assemble.
I’m not a fan of coconut and don’t usually like German Chocolate Cake, but now that I’ve tried it, this recipe is really quite good. I would actually make it again!
